A competition for ladies age 70 and over representing various organizations in the community.

Competition to consist of: Baking (1 item) Handcrafted item (1 item) Fashion parade (any style) Talent/speaking (2 impromptu questions)

This is to be a “fun” competition in honor of our former board member of many years, Lela Irvine

Saturday, May 21, at 2-4 pm in the Rec Centre Creston Room.

We hope to have contestants introduced at the Friday evening Opening Ceremonies and have them ride in the Saturday morning parade. We hope to have former Blossom Festival Queens as judges and there will be CASH prizes for the winners and their sponsors.

70+ Ladies Pageant In honor of the 70th anniversary of the Festival And the memory of Lela Irvine

In lieu of a traditional “Queen” pageant, Creston’s 2011 Blossom Festival committee wants to celebrate the number “70” , as in the 70th anniversary of the festival, by holding a competition, with a new spin, for ladies 70 years of age and older.

Longtime former Blossom Festival committee member, Lela Irvine, passed away last year. She was an amazing example of community involvement well into her senior years, and always had a great sense of humor. This competition, held in her honor, will showcase other wonderful women, like her, who are the heart of this community.

The Go-Go Grannies will be the sponsoring group, who will put on the event as a fund-raiser and tea, to be held in the Rec Centre’s Creston Room on Saturday, May 21, from 1-4 pm. Entertainment will be provided by “Strings Attached” cello and piano duo. The Creston & District Credit Union has made a donation to Blossom Festival to cover expenses for the event.

All community organizations, groups and churches are invited to sponsor an entrant – one of their female members who is 70 years of age, or older. Individuals are also invited to enter. Entry forms will be sent out, or can be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce office, or call Barb at 428-7476.

Former Blossom Festival Queens will be invited to judge. Cash Prizes will be awarded based on the judges’ decisions.

The competition will have a light-hearted, fun atmosphere. Contestants will be asked to provide one home baked item, one hand-crafted item, and perform either a short talent item or speak for 2 minutes. The final category will be a fashion parade – in any style of dress the participants wish, choosing appropriate music for each.
